In, This article I'll show you where you can get free, Cisco, CCNA lab exercises and also how you can use those web exercises in Cisco's free software packet raiser. The first thing to show you is where to get the free lab exercises. That's really easy. Just come to my website here: black box comm and then right at the top of the page. You can click on the Cisco CCNA lab guide here.
So click on that and then that is going to download this PDF for you. And if I have a look in the PDF, You can see that it's got full instructions in here for how to complete the lab exercises for all the different topics in the CCNA exam, As well as having the written instructions at the start of each exercise. It's got a link here to download the zip file, So you've got the project there that you can import into packet facer to run the exercise. So obviously, Before you can import the lab exercise in a packet phaser, You need to have packet tracer installed. So let's have a look at how to do that next to get the software.
The first thing that you have to do is sign up for the free introduction to packet, Tracer course, Which you can find on the Cisco Networking Academy website. So I'm on the page. Already you can see the URL up here at the top and then I'm gonna hover my mouse over sign up today and click on English. Then, When the next page loads I'll enter in my name here and my email address, I was created a temporary email here to do this demo and then solve the math question, And then I can click on submit. Then it tells me that t've sent an activation email to my inbox through. I will go there and I can see the message coming and now into my Inbox.
So I will click on that and I can see there's a link here to activate the account true. I will click on that. The next page asks me to create my account so school comm, Which will give me access to the Cisco Networking Academy. It's already filled my detail and my name in here. For me.
It asks me some additional details here, Including setting a password. I'Ve already filled that in so now I can click on register then on the next page. It asks me to sign in so I'll enter my email address and then click on next and then enter my password, And I can click on sign in it's venn going to ask me for yet more details.
So I will fill all those in. I have already, And then I can click on create account. Then I can click on launch course and that will finally take me into the introduction to packet face, Or course, So, If you haven't used packet face or before this course is useful, It will teach you how to build your own projects in there. I'll actually show you how to do that quickly here, But if you want to have a longer course about that, Then you can read this introduction to packet tracer course.
The other thing that we can do from in here is to actually download packet tracer. To do that, I need to click on the my netacad button over here on the left. I can also just go to WWII CAD comm and log in there that'll bring me to this page and under the resources menu. I can click on download packet, Racer and then on the page. Here I select the version for the operating system I'm running on.
You can get it for Windows, Linux or Mac. I want 64-bit windows here, So I'm gonna click that option and then that is going to download the installation file to my downloads folder, It's 146 Meg. So it might take a little bit of time. I'll just give us a couple more seconds and then it will be done and then, When that is ready, I can go to my downloads for and I can see it there, So I double click on the executable in windows.
Click on yes to accept this accept the agreement. It's a very simple, Install, I'm basically going to just be clicking Next Next Next here, So I do that and then it's going to install Pocket racer. This is going to take a little bit of time as well. So I'll pause the article again here and come back when it's done when the installation has completed, I can click on finish and that is going to your launch pocket freezer and when it finishes starting up here, It's going to ask me to log in with that Same username and password again, You're gonna have to do this. Every time you use packet tracer.
It is a mild annoyance, So I'll put in my username, Which was PT demo flat box comm and then on the next page, I'm going to put in my password in there and then I can click on sign in and this is now going to open up Packet tracer for me when I open it like this, It's going to be just a blank project with nothing in there. If you do want to create your own projects, You'll see that you've got the devices down here at the bottom. So there are all of my different routers.
So I can just click on here and I can drag and drop a couple of routers into my topology. Let's say that I want a switch as well. You can see down in the bottom left its row treszura selected there, Where I had to add a switch just over the rate of there is switches. I would click on that and then I can select the switch for a one and drag and drop that in as well.
Then I also need to connect my devices so I'll click on the button here to add connections. You need to use the right type. So how are just straight through Ethernet connections here, So I'm going to click that button and then I can click on my router and select the interface that I want to connect the cable to and then click on my switch and select a port.
I'm going to connect it to you on my switch and then I need to on the link button again. So each time you add a new link, You need to click on the link button again and I'm going to select the port on my rotor. I want to plug the cable into and then click on the switch and select the port on the switch.
I'm gonna plug that into then to actually configure your devices. You just click on them. So I'll click on my first rotor here and then click on this GOI tab and then that gets me into the command line interface for that router. Ok, So that's how you can quickly build your own topologies to practice with in Pocket racer, But because you've downloaded my free lab exercises.
You don't actually have to do that because everything is provided for you with your download you'll, Find all the written instructions of what you have to do and also the projects are provided here as well. So, Let's see how that works so in the PDF here I'll go to the first lab exercise, Which is number 4 and you'll see result linked years. It was on link. It was start of every lab exercise where you can download the project fail from so I'll click on that link, And then that will bring me to the page here which has got all the projects.
So I will download the first project here, Which was number 4, And then I will go to my downloads folder. You can see there. It is it's a zip file and if I open that up you'll see there is the packet tracer project in front about what I recommend you do is actually extract this first, So I'm gonna take the packet facer fail out of there and I'm gonna run that Directly and then that is going to open up in packet facer and to do the lab exercise. I just go back to the PDF again and I follow the instructions in here in the PDF you'll find that there's tasks for you to do. There is also an answer key in there as well.
So if you get stuck on anything, There are also fuel, Step-by-step solutions provided as well. So looking back at the project in packet tracer, You can see. This first exercise is very simple, Which is very guided walk through that the later lab exercises. Do you get a lot more difficult and more complicated? A couple of things to tell you here: you need to be running packet, Face or version 73 or later, Or it's not gonna open and when you do open the project, If you don't see the devices in the middle here, Then what to do is just use.
The scroll bars to find the device, Because, Depending on the resolution of your screen, It might not be showing up in the middle here. You might need to scroll to find it and again to configure the device you just click on it and then click on the CLI tab and then in here I click in the command line hit enter and I can type in here an able and config T To get to the configure prompt and now I'm ready to rock and roll with my lab exercise: , But was it if you have any issues with the lab exercises or with packet tracer then send me an email.
